Class Announcements 5th gradeWelcome to 5th grade. I am excited to start a new year with the students. We have a new Social Studies curriculum which will be Geography. We will cover North America, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean. I will be learning along with the students and will welcome any pictures or books they may want to share throughout the year.
Our first units will be: Math: factors, multiplication *Please make sure they know their facts! Science: Oceanography Reading: We'll start in the basal and move onto trade books Writing: We'll begin the English text and workbook with sentence structure and writing paragraphs. Spelling contracts will start in 2 weeks. Social Studies: The 7 continents, 5 oceans, and we'll begin unit 1 on North America. We'll also be making US maps out of homemade playdough. It is imperative that homework is turned in on time each day! Expect two homework assignments as well as reading every night. Some weekend homework may also be assigned. This will teach them responsibility and keep me happy :). I look forward to meeting all of you at Back to School Night and thanks for letting me teach your child this year.
